Seattle Seahawks trade quarterback Tarvaris Jackson to Buffalo Bills – NFL News
As Seattle Seahawks have made the announcement that their rookie Russell Wilson will be the starting quarterback for the 2012 season, they have also confirmed that they have traded their veteran quarterback Tarvaris Jackson to Buffalo Bills.
Jackson’s trade rumours were already doing the rounds since the last few days and with Wilson and Matt Flynn adjusting into the Seahawks’ system pretty well, Jackson’s trade was imminent.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll confirmed the news on Sunday, August 26, 2012. On the Bills’ side, they will trade Vince Young.
Talking to the media via call conference, Carroll said:
"It has been agreed upon, but there is still a little bit of paperwork to do. It might be done tonight. It is scheduled to be done."
Seahawks’ move to give away Jackson does not come as a surprise after Wilson managed to overcome the likes of Matt Flynn, who was added into the roster this offseason with a three-year, $26 million contract. Flynn joined the Seahawks after playing as a backup
quarterback for Green Bay Packers.
The trade seems to have come out of desperation from the Seahawk’s camp as they were frustrated by watching their starting and backup quarterbacks giving below par performances.
On the other hand, Bills seem to have got the better part of the deal. Getting Jackson in place of Young looks to be a massive upgrade.
Initially, Jackson was supposed to stay at the Seahawks as he had already started for them last season and knew the system. It was expected that Flynn would challenge him for the starting quarterback job.
However, Wilson’s remarkable performance not only forced Jackson’s trade, but also pushed Flynn down to the backup role.
Jackson did not have a cherished career in his time at Minnesota Viking with which he played five seasons. He had joined the Seahawks after signing a two-year contract with them.
