Seattle Sounders FC eye further glory after winning the US Open Cup for the third time
Major League Soccer franchise, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chicago-Fire-c38795. The Rave Green have won all the USO Cups since their inception into the MLS in 2009.
However, the team is focusing on future assignments and not celebrating the win. The squad, not content with just s single trophy, is hungrier than ever for more success and is eying more silverware before the season draws to a conclusion.
Suffice to say, the Sounders are in close competition with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Los-Angeles-Galaxy-c39818 for the Supporters’ Shield – though it’s more of a mathematical possibility. The LA are seven points ahead of the Rave Green, who are left with only three games in the season.
Although it will be a close fight for the Shield, the Rave Green are in a good run of form and are hoping to add another trophy to their shelf before finishing the regular season.
However, this will not be all for the Washington-based team. As http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Osvaldo-Alonso-c28822 pointed out, the main objective of the team is to bring home the 2011 MLS Cup. The Sounders have never gone beyond the first round of the playoffs since becoming a part of the
MLS. They plan to make club history this time.
“We’re happy, but not satisfied,” http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alonso-c5254 said. “We have other objectives to achieve and what’s left is MLS Cup, which is our primary objective. We need to forget the US Open Cup. The MLS Cup is our chief objective.”
The reason, as defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jeff-Parke-c18242 explained, is that the team has matured over the past three years and mere qualification to playoffs would not suffice this time around.
“The guys have matured,” Parke said. “They have been playing some big games and understand what it takes to get wins and battle through tough times. Guys respect each other a lot more this year and we’re finding ways to win.”
After crashing out in the early stages of last season’s playoffs, head coach Sigi Schmid wants his charges to go the distance this time.
Though the German tactician knows that winning the MLS Cup might be too ambitious, he is still hopeful that his men can mount a title assault this time around.
