Fredy Montero completed his comeback to Seattle Sounders roster after three months. Nursing a wrist injury, the player had missed a big part of Major League Soccer action this season. But there were no worries on his face after Seattle defeated Portland
Timbers 3-2 at Jeld-Wen Field on Sunday, July 10.
The Columbian striker completed a brace in a teetering match between the archrivals. “For me, it was amazing,” Montero said after the game. “I feel really happy that I scored twice.”
With a home draw and the away win now, Sounders have managed to bag the Cascadian Cup for the third time.
After a scoreless first half, the home team struck first in the opening minute of the second period. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jeff-Parke-c18242, in a 50-50 ball. The centre-back, in confusion, tapped home an own goal.
However, Montero struck from a dead-ball situation eleven minutes later. The Columbian took the free-kick from just outside the penalty area and buried the ball into the net to level the score line.
The Timbers knocked the back of Sounders’ net again in the 69th minute and this time it was Perlaza himself. The goal was a result of a brilliant one-two between Perlaza and his compatriot http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-Chara-c11106.
Montero scored his second five minutes later. Lamar Neagle crossed the ball to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mauro-Rosales-c24983 who fed the Columbian with a through pass. The 23-year-old tapped home a composed finish for yet another equalizer.
“Now I scored two, I am happy. Next game I will try to score three goals. I’m looking forward to that,” Montero said.
The exploits shown by the player in his second game after injury comeback made it look an easy win for the spectators. Even head coach Sigi Schmid was pleasantly surprised with Montero completing a brace.
“Being able to come back right away and score so quickly both times was what really made the game easier for us,” the head coach said.
However, the game was far from being a gentle affair, for both Timbers and the Timbers Army.
“All the game, all the game I hear what they said, but my http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 is to play for Seattle Sounders,” Montero said. “I have many fans to support me and be behind me. I feel really happy in this team and am proud to play here.”
The ending minutes of the game became a physical affair from both sides. However, the Timbers fell victim of the foul game. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eric-Brunner-c12700 dragged Neagle in the penalty area and the referee duly pointed to the spot.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Osvaldo-Alonso-c28822 converted the penalty kick to give his Rave Green a decisive 3-2 lead. With the win, Sounders now move to second position in the Western Conference, while the Timbers fall even deeper to eight position.
