Seattle Sounders Make a Last Minute Win Against Chicago Fire (Part 2)
Chicago Fire were awarded a penalty when the ball struck Sounders’ defender Jeff Parke’s hand as Patrick Nyarko was aiming for the goal. Montero scored the equalizer in thirty sixth minute which was constituted from Tyson Wahl who took it from Patrick Lanni.
The result changing goal also came from Montero and that too during the second half’s stoppage time which made the people in the stadium go wild. It all started from a throw taken by James Riley which was then caught by Nathan Sturgis. Sturgis later left footed the ball and delivered it to Montero on the far side who gave a perfect ten out of ten header into the goal right past Sean Johnson, the Chicago Fire goal keeper.
This was Montero’s tenth goal of the season, while it was Sturgis first and Riley’s third assist. To sum up, the Seattle Sounders had 12-9 shots taken, and had a 6-4 corner advantage. The Sounders’ coach Sigi Schmid commented on his team’s win by saying that all of this was very exciting and everyone had done his hard work.
A lot of people had earlier predicted that this would be a high scoring match and that we would see a really tough game play. Although it wasn’t a high scoring match but still it proved to be a very tough one, as it kept both the teams at bay and demanded a lot from them physically.
No player was given a red card, but still there were five yellow cards. Freddie Ljungberg and Steve Kinney got yellow cards for reckless tackles and foul play. Nate Jaqua and Montero got fouls for reckless play as well while Blaise Nkufo got his yellow for unsporting behavior.
Schmid termed Chicago Fire as a very physical team, especially pointing out C.J. Brown for that matter. Meanwhile, Ljungberg was limping at the end of the match although any comment on that matter was waivered off by the team officials.
