Seattle Sounders slip past CF http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Monterrey-c39943 in the second group stage match – CONCACAF Champions League
Major League Soccer franchise http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mexico-c2956, for a CONCACAF Champions League Group D match against Monterrey CF. The match was played on Tuesday, August 23, at Estadio Tecnologico. The US club surged past the
Mexican side 1-0 to secure the first position in the group.
This is Sounders’ second CCL season and already the team has registered two wins in as many games, breaking last year’s one-win record. By the looks of it, the team has improved much and as the head coach Sigi Schmid put it, has matured during the one year,
which made the win possible against the best team in Mexico.
“I think the difference for us was that we have grown up a little bit as a team,” Schmid said. “We are more mature now. With the experience we had last year, we know what to expect and we didn’t make silly mistakes because we have grown up a little bit.”
The win against Monterrey marked the second victory in as many games. The first 4-1 win against Guatemalan team Comunicaciones coupled with the Tuesday’s defeat of the defending CCL champions puts the team on the top of group D with six points.
This kept midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Evans-c7952 bragging about the victorious roster, which did not include some of the regulars. “Bottom line, that’s what championship teams are made of,” said Evans, who started and played 90 minutes for Seattle. “You win when it’s tough.
You win when it’s easy. You win when you’re not supposed to.”
Schmid did not take along http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Terry-Boss-c34801 protected the net.
Despite being depleted of star players in the team, the Sounders kept the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Humberto-Suazo-c16447 at bay. Los Rayados could only manage one shot on the goal in the first half. The team failed to find an opening in the second half as well
despite trying the goalkeeper, Terry Boss, eleven times.
