Seattle Sounders versus Manchester United – Preseason Friendly: First half review
Manchester United took on Seattle Sounders in their second pre-season game as a part of their tour to North http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/New-England-Revolution-c40026 in Boston therefore they were
in high morale when they faced-off against Seattle. The English Premier League champions fielded a strong team which included the Danish goalkeeper Andres Lindegaard as their first choice shot stopper.
The young goalie was protected by a four man defence of Rafael, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anderson-c5565 with Macheda and Michael
Owen started for the English giants. Seattle Sounders pinned their offensive hopes on their two strikers Levesque and Montero who were assisted from the midfield region by the likes of Rosales, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alonso-c5254, Fernandez and Friberg.
Seattle started the match off strongly as in the 3rd minute of the encounter, the home team’s striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Montero-c26784 tried to chip Manchester United’s goalkeeper Andres Lindegaard. However the tall goalie was ready to deal
with a chip in a proper position but the looped shot never really troubled him as it sailed out of play for a goal kick due to the lack of accuracy in the effort.
In the 5th minute, Luis http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nani-c27299 threatened to pick open the Seattle defence when he cut inside from his right wing position. The Portuguese winger then played a delightful ball towards Macheda but unfortunately for the
away side, their Italian striker was unable to control the ball as it had too much pace on it. In the 6th minute, Fernandez rose highest outside the Manchester United penalty area to head the ball towards his strike partner, Montero whose eventual
effort just missed the away team’s goal by a few inches.
In the 15th minute of the encounter, Manchester United finally broke the deadlock when Ashley Young and Patrice Evra combined down the right hand side. United’s new signing Young found Evra with an intelligent pass on
the overlap. The French wing back did not disappoint with his ensuing cross which was met with authority by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355 who found himself free inside the Seattle six yard box to tap the ball home.
With the score line at one nil Manchester United turned on the afterburners in the 18th minute as Young tried his luck on goal from outside the Seattle penalty area but the former Aston Villa winger’s shot was acrobatically
tipped away by Keller in the Seattle Sounders’ goal. Nonetheless, the first half came to an end shortly after with the score line at one nil in favour of the away side who dominated the opening forty five minutes.
