Seattle Storm 28 vs. Tulsa Shock 25 - WNBA Game Halftime Analysis
On Thursday night at Key Arena, Sue Bird scored five points, grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists as Seattle Storm led the WNBA-worse Tulsa Shock 28-25 at halftime.
Lauren Jackson and Katie Smith also punctuated five points each for Storm, who are third in the Western Conference with a 15-12 record.
Tiffany Jackson led Tulsa with 10 points on a 5 for 6 shooting from the field and grabbed six rebounds. Ivory Latta had six points, two assists and a steal while Jennifer Lacy added four points and two rebounds for the Shock.
Tulsa shot 45.8 percent (11 for 24) from the floor and 100 percent (2 for 2) from free throw line while Seattle shot only 34.4 percent (11 for 32) from the field and an 80 percent (4 for 5) from the line. Shock committed 13 turnovers
in the first half of the game and the visiting committed only eight.
First Quarter
Jackson opened the game with a jumper and a free throw as Storm held a 3-0 lead early in the quarter. Tulsa responded with a 12-8 run to take a one-point lead, 12-11, with 05:08 to go in the quarter. Bird then hit a three-pointer
and Smith followed her with a lay-up to put Seattle ahead by four, 16-12. Swoopes however nailed a shot from downtown and cut the margin to one point, 15-16.
Liz Cambage hit a pair of free throws with 18 seconds to go to make it a one-point contest, 18-17 and Sheryl Swoopes missed a shot beyond the arc in the last second.
Second Quarter
Ashley Robinson scored a lay-up early in the second quarter to make it 20-17. Both teams then went scoreless for the next four minutes and the players missed some easy scoring opportunities.
With 05:20 to go in the first half, Jackson broke the jinx and nailed 2 free throws and Smith followed with a three as Seattle pushed their lead to 25-17. Lacy hit a jumper to cut the deficit to six before Seattle scored three
consecutive points to stretch their lead to 28-19. Tulsa went on a 6-0 run at the end of the quarter to cut Seattle’s lead to three, 28-25, at halftime.
