Seattle Storm hand Tulsa Shock their 12th consecutive defeat; Win 89-72 – WNBA Recap
Just a day after being limited to just four points on 1 for 6 shooting in a defeat to Minnesota Lynx, Sue Bird responded with her best game so far in this season.
Bird punctuated a season-high 29 points, including 20 in the first half, as Seattle Storm handed the Tulsa Shock their 12th straight loss with an 89-72 victory on Saturday night at BOK Center. In addition to a superb performance,
Bird also had seven assists, six rebounds and two steals. The 30-year-old shot was 8 of 14 from the field and 10 of 10 at the free throw line.
"For me to be able to help my team I have to be aggressive, and if that means when I'm open to take the shots, that's what I have to do," Bird said. "By being aggressive, getting some shots to fall in the first half, I was able
to be aggressive and find my teammates. They did an awesome job of knocking down shots."
Swin Cash also played a brilliant game and racked up 23 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out five assists in the victory. Tanisha Wright scored 11 points for Storm, who have won three of their previous four games.
Tiffany Jackson led Tulsa with 16 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Ivory Latta had 13 points, six rebounds and four assists while Liz Cambage tallied 11 points in the loss.
Seattle shot 50 percent (32 for 64) from the field, while the already slumping Tulsa shot just 37.7 percent (23 for 61). However, both of the teams shot 83.3 percent (20 for 24) from free throw line. Storm outscored Shock 40-20
in points in the paint.
Seattle held a seven-point lead, 23-16, at the end of first quarter and stretched it to 13 points, 48-35 at halftime.
Tulsa limited the visiting team to just 14 points in the third quarter and trimmed their 13-point first half deficit to seven, 62-55, heading into the last quarter. Storm however regained their shooting touch early in the fourth
quarter, widened their lead to as many as 18 points, 75-57, midway and never trailed for rest of the period.
