Seattle Storm hand Tulsa Shock their 16th consecutive loss; win 767-63 – WNBA Recap
The defending WNBA champions have played 11 of their last 15 games away from home and they didn’t like it one bit. With a record of 4-9 in the away games this season, on Thursday night Strom returned to their home courts and blew
away the league worst Tulsa Shock 77-63, handing Shock their 16th straight loss.
Camille Little led the charge for Storm and finished the game with a team high 19 points, 7 rebounds and three steals in nearly 26 minutes of action.
``Obviously, we play much better at home - it's just one of those things,'' said Little. ``We lost two games (earlier this week at Atlanta and New York), and the last one went down to the wire. We just wanted to try to get a good
win.''
Tanisha Wright added 11 points, Sue Bird had 9 while Ashley Robinson, Swin Cash and Lecoe Willingham all finished with 8 points apiece to help the Storm snap a two-game skid and improve to 9-1 at home this season and 26-1 in the
last 27 regular-season games. Seattle are now 13-10 this season.
Tulsa on the other hand are just one loss away from slipping to the WNBA record for the most consecutive losses, which is held by Atlanta Dream.
Shock were led by Liz Cambage. The rookie centre posted a career-high 24 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds. This was her 16th double figure performance in the 21 games she has played so far this season. Shock however
have moved to a 1-21, their lone win coming over Washington Mystics on June 18.  Tiffany Jackson scored 14 points and eight rebounds while Andrea Riley came off the bench to score 10.
Sue Bird started the game with a dagger from downtown and by the time Wright made another midway through the frame, Storm were already leading by 17-5. The way, in which the game started pretty much, summed up the night, with the
Shock never managing to take the lead or even coming close. When the first quarter ended, Seattle were leading the game by 26-18.
They didn’t put the foot off the paddle and routed Shock 24-10 in the second to take a 50-28 at halftime. Shock showed some character in the second quarter and beat Storm 23-17 and 12-10 in the respective quarters to finish at
63-77. Their assistant coach Kathy McConnell-Miller said after the game;
``One thing you want to share is that if you can play the way you played in the third and fourth quarter, you can beat anybody in the league. We just need to do a better job of that,''
Kathy was filling in for interim head coach Teresa Edwards, who is in Springfield, Mass, where she will be inducted in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
