Seattle Storm take down the San Antonio Silver Stars

Sue Bird erupted with a game-high 17 points, five assists and three rebounds as Seattle Storm knocked down the San Antonio Silver Stars 78-64 on Tuesday night. It was the second straight win for Storm while the Silver Stars lost
their second game on a trot. The Silver Stars however are still heading Seattle by half game in the Western Conference.
Bird shot 6 for 11 from the field, including 3 for 5 from three-point range. Swin Cash also scored 16 points, shooting 7 for 10 from the floor, and grabbed nine rebounds while Tanisha Wright ended the night with 12 points, seven
assists, three steals and three rebounds. Camille Little and Katie Smith added 10 points each for Storm, who have won four of their previous five games.
Scholanda Robinson led the Silver Stars with 12 points while their leading scorer Becky Hammon added just 11 points and four assists. Sophia Young had 10 points, a game best five steals, five rebounds and two assists in the loss.
Jia Perkins also came off the bench with 10 points and four rebounds for Silver Stars, who have lost their sixth consecutive game at Key Arena.
Seattle shot 53.6 percent (30 for 56) from the field and 85.7 percent (12 for 14) from free throw line. San Antonio had their worst shooting night for a while, shooting just 39.1 percent (25 for 64) from the floor and 53.8 percent
(7 for 13) from the line. Storm also grabbed 35 rebounds while San Antonio pulled down just 24. Additionally, Seattle scored 36 points in the paint and limited the visiting team to 22.
Storm came out strong in the very first quarter and shot 82.4 percent from the field. On the backcourt, they held San Antonio to just 19 points in the opening period to carry a 12-point lead, 31-19, into the second. The performance
of both teams was not up to the mark in the second quarter but Seattle managed to maintain an 11-points advantage at halftime.
San Antonio made a terrific comeback in the third quarter and trimmed the first half deficit to just one, 53-52, with 01:06 to go in the quarter. Storm however responded with seven unanswered points capped by a three from Bird
to take a 60-52 lead into the fourth quarter.
Silver Stars coach Dan Hughes said about Bird's shot from down town, "Yeah, that one really hurt us," "We didn't get the matchup on that situation, but that's what she does for them. We have to recognize that. She is a good player
and is going to make those shots. That gave them some separation to play with after we'd gotten back into it."
Seattle opened the fourth quarter on a 4-0 run to stretch their lead to 12 points, 64-52 and were never threatened after that.
