Sebastiaan Verschuren captures Men’s 100m freestyle gold: Day four – 2012 Netherlands Championships
Sebastiaan Verschuren of E ON-NZA captured gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle on concluding day of the 2012 Netherlands Swimming Championships in Amsterdam on Sunday, June 10.
Verschuren devastated hopes of his competitors with his unmatchable start and dominated his way throughout the event for first position. With his alluring efforts, he made no mistake in the playoff and earned his way to the finishing end for gold medal.
He continued his nerve-wrecking pace in the double lap event and finished first with the timing of 49.59 seconds.
The champion was followed by Jasper van Mierlo of EIFFELswimmersPSV, who remained 1.11 seconds apart and earned his way to the finishing wall for silver medal by posting a time of 50.70 seconds.
Mierlo was chased by his team-member, Steven Nonnekes, who remained 0.75 seconds behind and secured bronze medal of the discipline by producing an effort of 51.45 seconds.
The bronze medallist remained marginally faster from Marnik Dekoninck of BRABO, who stayed 0.06 seconds behind and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth best finisher with the timing of 51.51 seconds.
Dekoninck was chased by Jeroen Baars of MNC Dordrecht, who remained 0.32 seconds away from his former finisher and hit the finishing end with an effort of 51.83 seconds for fifth position.
Subsequently, Baars enjoyed an advantage of 0.35 seconds over his following rival, Joost Groeneveld of DWK, who finished sixth in the 100m event by clocking an effort of 52.18 seconds.
Seventh finest spot of the race was secured by Stijn Depypere of BRABO, who was only 0.04 seconds slower from overpowering his preceding swimmer over the finishing end and tapped the wall with the timing of 52.22 seconds.
Depypere was followed by Arjan van der Plaat of MNC Dordrecht, who remained 0.07 seconds behind and cruised his way towards the finishing blockade as eighth finisher by submitting a time of 52.29 seconds.
The championship is of considerable importance as it allows their national swimmers to compete with each other and overcome their deficiencies before the 2012 London Olympic Games. Furthermore, the championship ended after the conclusion of its fourth day’s
event.
