Sebastiaan Verschuren claims Men’s 100m freestyle gold: Day three – 2011 Dutch Open LC Championships
Sebastiaan Verschuren of E ON-NZA claimed gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle on third day of the 2011 Dutch Open Long Course Championships in Eindhoven on Sunday, December 4th.
Verschuren demonstrated his smothering efforts in the freestyle playoff and cemented his on the podium for gold medal with an immaculate effort of 48.60 seconds. With his outstanding effort in the double lap freestyle event, he remained prominently ahead of his competitors throughout the event.
His gold winning time remained 0.92 seconds above the national senior mark of 47.68 seconds, made by Pieter van den Hoogenband in 2008. Subsequently, he was almost to seconds away from the world mark of 46.91 seconds, owned by Cesar Cielo of Brazil in 2009.
The champion remained 0.31 seconds ahead of Stefan Nystrand of Sparvagen Sim, who followed him on the podium for silver medal by submitting a nice time of 48.91 seconds. He remained 0.49 seconds ahead of his following swimmer, Florent Manaudou of Team Marseille 2012, who stepped on the podium for bronze medal by ending his swim in a wonderful time of 49.40 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Pieter Timmers of BRABO, who remained 0.39 seconds slower from overwhelming the effort of his former finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 49.79 seconds.
Timmers was chased by Manaudou’s team-mate, Gregory Mallet, who stayed just 0.15 seconds slower than his preceding swimmer and ended his swim in a time of 49.94 seconds for fifth position.
The sixth spot of the race was secured by Petter Stymne of Simklubben Neptun, who completed his swim in a time of 49.96 seconds. He was followed by Norbert Trandafir of Romania, who occupied seventh position of the event by reporting a time of 50.17 seconds.
Meanwhile, Luca Leonardi of Italy National Team emerged on the finishing wall for eighth fastest spot as he finished his swim in a time of 50.20 seconds.
In addition, the gold medallist expressed contentment over his victory in the freestyle discipline while the podium finishers received their awards and accolades after the completion of the final session.
