Sebastian Janikowski lead Raiders to victory over Bears – NFL Recap Week 12
With the help of six field-goals by Sebastian Janikowski, the Oakland Raiders ended five straight wins of Chicago Bears. For the Raiders who could not get the ball into the end zone till the fourth quarter of the game, it was a
kick-game mostly that helped them keep the Bears away.
Sebastian Janikowski was at the front for Raiders with six field goals and managing a team record.
"Our two kickers are fantastic. There's not another punter or kicker in the NFL would ever want to have on the football team. I said to the team when this was over, those were the two men who were here the last time this team was
7-4. Those guys have a lot to do with it. They did a tremendous job." Raiders coach Hue Jackson said.
With the Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell off the field with a collar bone injury, Carson Palmer had been pitched in. He led the offense with 301 yards throwing while completing 21 of 37 passes with only one interception.
The Bears too had lost their quarterback Jay Cutler to a thumb injury and had Caleb Hanie placed in. However Hanie could not prove himself despite two touchdown passes and had three interceptions which were fully utilized by the
Raiders to outscore the Bears 25-20. Hanie completed 18 passes out of 35 and managed 254 yards.
The first quarter saw the Raiders lead the game 6-0 with two field goals of 40 and 47 yards by Janikowski. The Bears managed to hit back with a touchdown by Johnny Knox off a 29 yard pass by Hanie in the second quarter. However,
soon the Raiders took charge of the game 12-7 with another two field goals of 42 and 19 yards by Janikowski.
The third quarter had the Bears trail further behind as Janikowski repeated his first two successes with 37 and 44 yard goals.
The dismayed Bears entered the last quarter with frantic attempts to encounter the Raiders. They had some success in the beginning as Robbie Gould scored two field goals of 50 and 53 yards managing to come near the Bears 13-18.
However their hopes came dashing down as Michael Bush went for a 3 Yard run to score a touchdown off a kick from Sebastian Janikowski. Bush had 24 carries for 69 yards being restricted by a strong Chicago defence.
The Bears tried to rally back as Kellen Davis took a 9 yard Pass from Hanie to score a touchdown with about two minutes remaining but could not proceed further than that.
"I was a little antsy early on. A little bit too amped, I feel like. Just kind of felt a little pressure and sailed it on him." said Hanie after he failed to lead his team to a sixth straight victory.
