at Anfield, the Black Cats have had two terrible back to back losses after the opening game.
In their second game of the new season, a clash against Newcastle United, Sunderland lost at the Stadium of Light before being dumped out of the Carling Cup. Bruce’s men failed to register a win against Championship side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brighton-c38685 on Tuesday and were eliminated
from the cup competition at just the beginning of the season.
The Black Cats manager has since then been under immense pressure to return to winning ways, especially since he had aimed for a top six finish this season. Bruce will be preparing his side for a clash against newly promoted side, Swansea City, this Saturday.
He will be aware that anything less than a win could end in disaster for him.
Steve Bruce went on to make ten signings in the current transfer window, including Sebastian Larsson, Wes Brown, John O’Shea, Keiren Westwood and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Craig-Gardner-c9475. Despite the huge number of players having arrived at the club, very few have been given the opportunity
to showcase their talents, which some people feel is the reason for their poor form.
However, Larsson felt the Sunderland boss was right to make the newcomers fight and earn for their place in the first team. He felt the players would not appreciate it as much if it was just handed to them, as compared to the new arrivals having to earn
a spot in the team. The 26-year-old winger maintained the need for healthy competition in the squad to reach their targets.
Larsson said in an interview:
“There was a strong group of players here before the new signings came in, players who did really well last season, and just because you are a new signing doesn't mean you will walk into the team.
You really need to be on your toes and playing well and if not, someone else will take your shirt. That's what you need if you are going to progress. If you are going to become bigger and better, you need that competition.”
