Sebastian Schoettler beats Rhys Walker in the qualifying round of Austrian International Challenge
Germany’s talented player Sebastian Schoettler displayed a superb show of quality badminton and remained successful in beating England’s Rhys Walker in Men’s Singles qualifying round of the Austrian International Challenge 2012 in Austria, on Wednesday,
February 22.
It was a thrilling fight where both shuttlers showed their elevated skills and played to their maximum potential throughout the match. They entertained the crowd by putting up sensational show of top quality badminton for 46 minutes.
However, Sebastian was the first to take over the control of rallies in the deciding game and emerged as the winner of this thrilling fight that ended in three games.
In the opening points of first set, both men showed their aggressive approach as they played an attacking badminton and remained close on the score board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the contest progressed in the similar manner as both men did not drop their speed at any stage. They reached at the concluding phase of opening game without taking any lead.
At this crucial stage, Sebastian failed to play dominating game as he could not control the bird and lost the set with a narrow margin of 19-21.
However, the German elevated his level of play in the second set and remained dominant in the opening half. He managed a reasonable lead until the one-minute break.
After the break, Walker tried to dictate the pace of rallies by gearing up his speed but he failed to create gaps as his rival was quicker this time. Sebastian played positive badminton and remained successful in taking the set with a 21-16 score on the
board.
In the deciding set, Walker played well in the opening rallies but lost his control over the bird as his German challenger occupied the driving seat in the opening half.
Sebastian did not face much trouble from his English opponent in the concluding half of final set. He was quite focused and positive in his play and bagged the set with a convincing margin of 21-14.
This Men’s Singles qualifying-round battle ended in 46 minutes with a 19-21, 21-16 and 21-14 score on the board.
