Sebastian Verschuren clinches Men’s 100m freestyle gold: Day three - 2012 Sette Colli Meet, Italy
Sebastian Verschuren of Netherlands clinched gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle on day three of the 2012 Sette Colli Meet in Rome, Italy on Saturday, June 16.
Verschuren experienced strong resistance from his strongest challenger, Hanser Garcia of Cuba, but with his fascinating efforts, he managed to out-touch him over the finishing blockade for gold medal.
His alluring effort remained just a touch away from his closest swimmer as he tapped the wall with the timing of 49.09 seconds.
His toughest competitor, Garcia stayed only 0.01 seconds apart and followed him on the medal rostrum for silver medal by clocking an effort of 49.10 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Fabien Gilot of France, who was only 0.02 seconds behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 49.12 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Marco Orsi of Italy, who stayed 0.18 seconds apart and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 49.30 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth position of the discipline was secured by Evgeny Lagunov of Russia, who finished fifth in the double lap freestyle event with the timing of 49.32 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by Sergey Fesikov of Russia, who was just an inch apart and made his way to the finishing wall for sixth position by producing an effort of 49.37 seconds.
Subsequently, Fesikov was chased by Fabio Gimondi of Italy, who struggled hard to improve his position by overpowering his former finisher but earned seventh best place of the event by posting a time of 49.55 seconds.
Gimondi also experienced tough battle from Luca Leonardi, who trying to claim seventh position of the event. Leonardi stayed 0.33 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 49.88 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, the session came to an end after the completion of all planned events in Men and Women’s corner while the arena also acknowledged forceful efforts of Verschuren in the 100m event.
In addition, the position holders were invited on the victory stand for medals and accolades at the medal ceremony of the championship.
