Sebastian Vettel: Blown Diffuser ban will hit everyone including Red Bull team – Formula 1
Red Bull’s Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel has said that the ban on the blown diffuser is going to strike all the front running teams in the 2011 season.
Vettel added that Red Bull’s design does not depend on the diffuser and will not be affected after its exclusion but other teams like Mercedes and Renault will suffer more as their engine relies on the exhaust system.
The ban on the diffuser is going to be implemented from July 2011’s Silverstone Grand Prix and despite the Red Bull bosses showing concerns over the ban, the German driver feels confident about his car’s performance without the diffuser.
The German explained, “It will change, obviously, grip levels change with the tyres. Surely it will slow us down - it will slow everyone down - but it's not as if you will have to change your driving from black to white.”
He further added that other teams will suffer more than Red Bull.
“Surely it will hit everyone as we all rely on it in terms of performance. It does make us quicker, and if you ban it. It will slow us down. I think there are other people that will lose more, for instance the Renault or Mercedes teams,” stated Vettel.
He added that some of the Formula 1 car designs of the 2011 season totally rely on the diffuser gases and they will be struck hard by the ban.
The teams will only be allowed to use the 10 percent of the current gasses to be blown out of the diffuser when off throttle, which will affect the pace of the car on corners.
However, as the law is going to change for every team, Vettel is confident that his lead over other cars will remain the same, although the racing pack will become slower.
The next round of the 2011 season, the Valencia Grand Prix on June 26, 2011 will be the last one with the blown diffuser and it will be interesting to see which teams learn fast to adapt to the ban before the Silverstone race.
