After a dominant season with Red Bull, the 2010 World Champion went on to take part at the annual Race of Champions Tournament for his country alongside the seven times World Champion Michael Schumacher. It took place this past
weekend on the streets of Berlin in Germany.
The two German’s secured the title for a fourth consecutive year and proved that Germany has the best two drivers out there. The tournament took place at the temporary track constructed on 17th June Street in front of
the well known Brandenburg Gate. After the event came to an end, he completed a driver’s parade to celebrate his success with his home crowd on a Red Bull tour bus.
“It was a dream come true for me today and it was great that so many people were here, even in the cold weather. It’s something very special to drive in front of the Brandenburg Gate and to leave a signature of rubber written by
my slicks! You don’t get such a chance very often in life - it was a great day,” stated the 2010 World Champion.
However, the two German’s were unable to make it to the finals at the individual Race of Champions competition. But in the team’s event, they were unstoppable. Britain’s team was also going pretty well and as a result, the two
teams had to go through a sudden-death-shoot-out to decide the result.
“It was extremely close in the first round and we thought we might get knocked out. But I was lucky I had Michael on my team. It was a fun experience and to win at home, the first time in many years that the Race of Champions
has been held in Germany, is very special,” said Vettel.
The young German enjoyed the glory with his family and friends. The seven times World Champion Michael Schumacher was also happy with a positive end to 2010.
“The crowd were very supportive tonight; they were cheering us all the way and with Sebastian having just won the World Championship it was even more emotional and fun out there tonight. After the group stages we definitely needed
to wake up - it felt like we were asleep,” Schumacher added.
