Sebastian Vettel – Future Red ‘Crashkid’?
The President of the Ferrari Formula One team, Mr. Luca di Montezemolo insists that Red Bull’s ace, Sebastian Vettel, wants to join the Italian giants.
Sebastian Vettel made history this term as he went on to become the youngest world champion in the sport’s six decade history. Interestingly, the guy that he beat at the last day of the season was Ferrari’s newest signing Fernando Alonso. Alonso himself
has occupied the honours of being the youngest world champion in his time with Renault. The Spaniard won the Formula One World Championship in 2005 when he was racing against the likes of Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello – Now the former Renault driver
finds himself in red threads.
Therefore, it’s plain that Ferrari has a knack of rounding up winners. While Alonso wasn’t any trouble after his heroics for the Renault team, it appears that Sebastian Vettel is next on the Italian team’s hit-list. Di Montezemolo, on Ferrari’s Christmas
celebration in Maranello claimed that the driver would be part of the team in the near future.
Conducting a little feasibility study, Vettel’s credentials are unquestionable. The previously accused 'Crashkid' thanks to a vocal McLaren camp, has apparently become a young prodigy. The 23 year old was able to soak up pressure from his 34 year old experienced
teammate Mark Webber, was able to outshine former youngest world champion and McLaren Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton and able to withstand the pressure from Ferrari to clinch the title on the last race of the season. Turning our attention to the Ferrari line
up, while it’s hard to see the most decorated constructors in Formula 1 history to part ways with Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa’s spot on the team remains uncertain. The Brazilian has been somewhat mediocre owing to the car that he has at his disposal. Secondly,
Vettel’s contract with Red Bull expires in 2012.
The Ferrari President said:
"Sebastian is fast, smart and young. Sooner or later he will be driving a red car."
News from Vettel’s end is also encouraging. Red Bull’s owner, Dietrich Mateschitz confirmed that the young prodigy was interested in racing for the Italian team in the near future.
"Seb has dreams to one day race for Ferrari. He wants to win." commented Mateschitz.
With the youngster making his intentions clear, the combination of fusing youthful determination with the experience and expertise of Ferrari seems like a lethal combination. However, it does beg to question the Italian team’s dominance over the racing franchise
and their unquestionable tendency to pluck out readymade talent that took an obvious amount of scouting for competitors to discover. Whether it is a plain market-oriented approach or evidence of an obvious monopoly, that is something that I leave for the reader
to decide...
