Sebastian Vettel: I can only lose badly – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has said that he “can only lose badly,” after the clash with Narain Karthikeyan of HRT in 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix.
The defending champion showed his middle finger to the Indian driver in the second race after his collision due to which he dropped from 6th position to 11thand failed to score even a single point. Resultantly, Vettel expressed an arrogant remark and called
Karthikeyan “idiot” and “cucumber.”
On the other hand, Karthikeyan did not keep quiet and called the German driver “cry baby” and “unprofessional.”
Nevertheless, Vettel is not apologetic about his behaviour while he is being defended by his team too as Helmut Marko, the team advisor of Red Bull said that Marussia and HRT should “pay more attention” to get out of the way of the leading cars.
Moreover, when Vettel was asked if he considers himself a “bad loser,” he responded to the Sport Bild of Germany, “It’s true, I can only lose badly. Why should I lie? If I could lose well, I would not be in formula one. I was disappointed.”
Besides, he insisted that his stance should be judged according to the circumstances.
“So soon after the race, I feel like I should be honest rather than playing the ‘smiling boy’. Sometimes it takes ten minutes after finishing a race to return to normal, sometimes you need a night’s sleep to check things off and look ahead positively. When
I put Jenson Button out of the race at Spa in 2010, I apologised to him the next day,” he said.
Furthermore, the two-time world champion said that he is focusing on the next two races in China and Bahrain while he said that he is determined for the races ahead.
It would be interesting to note that Red Bull have won the last two championship titles while they completely dominated during the preceding season in which Vettel secured 11 victories out of 19 races.
Conversely, this year, they struggled during the last day of the final pre-season test held at Circuit de Catalunya in which they could hardly cover 23 while set the last best time.
In addition, they are yet to explore the full potential of RB8 in this season as they have not been able to secure any competitive grid position after the qualifying of the first two races.
