Sebastian Vettel: McLaren are looking very strong – 2011 Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix
Red Bull Racing team driver Sebastian Vettel has recently admitted that McLaren are looking really strong this weekend for the 2011 Italian Grand Prix after a very hard-fought Friday practice day against them.
“McLaren look very quick in particular and the ones to beat this weekend. But it's very difficult to judge on a Friday as so many factors are involved,” he said.
Despite the fact Vettel topped the timesheets of the second free practice session at Monza, he is under a big threat from McLaren and Mercedes GP as well. Lewis Hamilton was just around 3 hundredths of a second short of his time while Michael Schumacher
finished in 3rd place ahead of the 2 Ferrari drivers.
“It was an interesting day. It's a track that traditionally doesn't suit us, but we were happy with the car today... We had no problems today, so we're satisfied,” said Vettel.
Ferrari are looking pretty good as well but they lack pace at some areas of the track as a result of which they might not be able to cope up with McLaren or RBR.
Monza is a high-speed track and does not rely on downforce as compared to most of the tracks in the Formula 1 calendar. Red Bull’s car is reliant on its unique downforce structure but since they will not be able to make the best of it this weekend, they
might suffer a lot in terms of pace. As a result, their rivals will definitely try their best to inflict maximum damage in the championship.
Both McLaren and Ferrari will be hoping to come up with the best possible setup in order to defeat RBR once again like they did in the past couple of races before the month-long break.
Since the championship is almost over now, all Vettel would be aiming for in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season would be at least podium finishes in securing his title for this year.
