Sebastian Vettel: Monaco GP special, KERS still not working properly in RB7 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel has said that he would love to win the Monaco Grand Prix in the 2011 Formula 1 season for the first time in his career.
The reigning Formula 1 champion stated the street track of Monaco demands every single bit of performance out of the car and Red Bull are missing their Kinetic Energy Recovery System.
The German topped the times chart of the first Free Practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix and used the KERS on quite a few occasions.
Although the KERS is working in Vettel’s car, his teammate Mark Webber had a bad day in Monaco because his device was not working properly.
“Actually everything was working for me today. I have no idea what issues Mark was facing. Our aim, of course, is to use KERS in qualifying and the race - and use one that it is working properly,” commented Vettel.
The German added that the KERS is not an easy tool to handle in the race especially on the Monaco street track.
Only in the Spanish Grand Prix, the Red Bull team managed to put a working KERS on Vettel’s car which proved vital for him in the last few laps. Still, Vettel had some tough time managing the setup of the KERS charger.
Moreover, Vettel added that some usual challenges are expected from the top running teams.
“Fernando (Alonso) was obviously doing very well on the long runs. But Nico Rosberg also seems to be in very good shape and so do the McLarens. In other words, it’s the usual suspects,” added the German.
Talking about the Drag Reduction System, Vettel said that the ban on one part of the track was a necessary one. However, the German also stated that with Monaco’s narrow turns and corners, the DRS can be dangerous.
The Monaco GP race will be contested on Sunday, May 29, 2011 and it will be interesting to see Red Bull trying to clinch a win without effective usage of KERS.
