Sebastian Vettel: Red Bull Racing not as confident in 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has said that they are not feeling as confident in 2012 as they were in the preceding season, regardless of claiming their first GP victory of this year at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.
Vettel secured second podium finish in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia.
However, he could not be able to score even a single point in the second race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia after his clash with Narain Karthikeyan of HRT and could only finish at fifth position in the third race held at Shanghai International
Circuit in China.
Nonetheless, the double world champion secured the pole for Bahrain GP and finally won his first race of this season ahead of Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen after struggling in the previous couple of races.
It will be quite interesting to note that all the four races in the season so far have been won by four different drivers with completely different car setups.
Even though the veteran German driver said that their car RB8 is not as strong as previous year’s car, nevertheless, he said that they still have been able to deliver good performances in the races until now.
“First of all, it's a nice story to say we had the best car by far before,” Vettel told Metro. “Yes we had a very strong car, but sometimes we didn't have the best car yet had strong weekends. This year we'd have loved to be in a better place to start. Nevertheless,
I think we've had good races.”
In addition, he said that they are not as certain as they used to be while he said that the performance in the qualifying is very crucial in order to have a competitive finish in the upcoming races.
He said, “It's tight and we're not as confident as we used to be, so small things can make a difference in qualifying and have a big impact on the race. The faster you go on Saturday, the easier the race is on Sunday.”
The defending champions are currently leading the constructors’ championship in the season with 101 points and are looking forward to perform well in the European season.
