Sebastian Vettel: Red Bull Racing want to be at front – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has said that they want to be at the front in the 2012 Formula 1 season after a struggling second race.
The two-time world champion, Vettel secured second podium finish in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after qualifying for sixth place in the grid.
However, he could not score even a single point in the second GP held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia due to his clash with Narain Karthikeyan of HRT.
Vettel has not been able to take a promising start for the defence of his title in the season so far. Nevertheless, the veteran German driver said that they are working at their best with the highest hopes to improve their performance in the races ahead.
He added that the upcoming races will give a more precise understanding regarding the standings of the teams.
“We are always on full throttle - even if we are at the very top! We want to be at the front. That is deeply entrenched in all of us, so it is just a matter of time. Two races into the season you can’t tell anything about the pecking order. Melbourne is
an unusual track and Malaysia was an unusual race, so I would say that we will only see the true colours in the next few races to come,” said Vettel.
Vettel has won the last two championship titles out of which he completely dominated during the preceding year as he secured 11 wins out of 19 races. However, he said that due to change in rules and regulations by FIA, they are facing difficulties to explore
the full potential of RB8.
“I think all teams struggle a bit - probably us a bit more because expectations were higher,” said Vettel.
Red Bull struggled during the last day of the final test held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona due to the upgrades made in the car.
Nonetheless, Vettel will be driving RB8 with the older exhaust layout in the free practice session at Shanghai circuit in order to evaluate and enhance its performance for the races ahead.
