Sebastian Vettel: Winning the 2010 title has not changed my life much – Formula 1 news
The 2010 Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel recently stated in an interview that winning the 2010 world title did not change his life much.
Sebastian became the youngest-ever Formula 1 champion in the history of the sport and he is aiming for a successful title defence in 2011 with the Red Bull Racing team once again.
However, Vettel stated that nothing will change even though his car will have ‘number 1’ plastered on it in 2011.
“I don’t have an advantage by having the number one on the car. It’s a nice feeling. Last year was a great success and a big relief for me. So hopefully it will make me a bit stronger but nevertheless it will be a long, hard and tough season,” said the 23-year-old
German.
Reports suggest that the new Red Bull RB7 is expected to be the strongest-looking car in the 2011 Formula 1 season according to the pre-season test sessions’ results. Sebastian is hoping for a second consecutive title run this season but it is not going
to be as easy as it sounds as Ferrari and McLaren are going to give them a tough time throughout the 2011 season similar to the 2010 Formula 1 season.
Vettel topped the timesheets at the pre-season test session in Barcelona for two days consecutively. Nevertheless, the pre-season test session results do not matter much as each team has its own criteria for each test session respectively because of which,
the teams never aim for fast times or topping the timesheets each day in these sessions. The final pre-season test session is expected to begin on March 8, 2011 and will take place in Barcelona once again.
Vettel is obstinate that it is still too early to make any predictions about the 2011 Formula 1 season or compare each team’s car in terms of pace.
“We seem to have a good car but it’s still early - far too early to tell. There have been a lot of changes, which involved a lot of work over the winter as we tried to get the whole package ready for the start of the season. It’s very busy now and we’re
all trying to do our best to get the best possible packaging together,” he explained.
However, Sebastian believes that the only obstruction in his journey to a second drivers’ title could be the new tyres introduced by Pirelli. The teams have criticised the new tyres as they believe that they degrade very quickly because of which the teams
might even have to opt for a 4-5 pit strategy as well.
Nevertheless, the season opening race in Australia is definitely going to be an eye-opener for each team as the results of the race would reflect future prospects of the 2011 Formula 1 season with reference to each team’s performance.
