Sebastian Vettel admits Red Bull have plenty of work to do – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has said that they have plenty of work to do in order to claim consistent victories in 2012 Formula 1 season.
However, he said that they have made some good progress in the in-season test held at Mugello circuit this week.
Even though, the two-time world champion is leading the drivers’ championship in the season so far with 53 points. Nevertheless, he said that RB8 is not yet achieved the title to be called as the most competitive car of this year.
Therefore, he said that the Mugello test is very crucial for the team as it will provide them the chance to make the essential evaluation about the car’s setup so as to improve its pace in the upcoming European season.
“Obviously it is good to win races, that is our target, but nevertheless we know we have a lot of catching up to do,” said Vettel. “That is the idea here at the test, to do a lot of laps and to get some mileage and sort out some of the stuff we have been
testing at previous events, and will do in the future. But much more important is the analysis after this test to see what happens to this car.”
Red Bull have won the last two championship titles out of which they completely dominated during the preceding season as their veteran German driver, Vettel took 11 victories in 20 races.
Conversely, they are not feeling as confident in this season as they were in the previous year because there have been four different winners in the first four races of the season who ran on completely different cars’ setups.
Although they faced problems in finding their true potential in the start of the season and struggled on the last day of the final pre-season test held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona in which they could only cover 23 laps due to issues in the updates.
Nonetheless, they have still been deemed as the most favourite contender for the championship title this year and they are presently at the top of constructors’ standing with 101 points ahead of McLaren.
