Sebastian Vettel admits he had a bit of fun racing with Lewis Hamilton at Barcelona – Formula 1 news
Sebastian Vettel said that he had “good fun” on the track Lewis Hamilton’s McLaren on the second day of the second pre-season test at Barcelona.
Red Bull have shown good reliability and pace in the second pre-season test and so has McLaren so far. Vettel and Hamilton met on the track on Wednesday Vettel was on a different stage of the run but found himself behind Hamilton. As Vettel tried to overtake,
Hamilton did not let him pass and the whole little period was like a race between the two.
The stint brought some excitement to otherwise a normal day of monotonous testing. Talking about the friendly rivalry, Vettel said he enjoyed it and mentioned that it is always good to see another car during the test and race a little bit. He further added
that obviously no one wants to come in the way of another driver testing his car, but a little bit of competitiveness is natural and exciting.
Vettel has won two back-to-back world titles in 2010 and 2011 and is gunning for a third straight title in the upcoming season. To have a strong Red Bull car will be integral to his goal. However, he did mention that McLaren looked like a good contender
to the Red Bull this coming season as it has shown good consistency and pace so far.
He said, “I think [McLaren] seem to be competitive. They do a lot of laps, they are very consistent. Judging the speed for everyone is still difficult but in terms of consistency they do look one of the best. For the others, they don't run that much so I
think McLaren is running most at this stage so it's easier to judge, whereas if you look at Ferrari or Mercedes they do run but it's not as clear and the runs are not that long so it's hard to say.”
McLaren did face some technical difficulties in the first pre-season test but fixed the issues to come but much better in the second test. The season begins on March 18, 2012 with the Australian Grand Prix.
