Sebastian Vettel against FIA’s four-cylinder engine plan – Formula 1 news
The reigning Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel has said that he is not in favour of the four-cylinder engine idea of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) for the 2013 Formula 1 season.
He stated that if he had the power, he would like to see the return of V12 engines in the sport. He added that he would want the cars to go up in power instead of going down in it over efficiency issues.
“I would put a V12 engine in the car - [I'm] against all the four-cylinder advocacy. I would take KERS off the car and put a V12 into the car. That would be 'greener' than what we have now!” said the reigning world champion.
Vettel added that he would pick Jochen Rindt as his teammate over anyone else in the history of the sport to drive alongside him.
Other than that, he stated that he would like to see more overtaking in the sport before admitting that he is still unsure if the Drag Reduction System is the right way to move forward while keeping in mind the nature of the sport.
He just wants to make it more possible and easier to overtake in Formula 1 over anything else and stated that he would not like to see any new invention in the sport.
“Overtaking is something that separates the men from the boys. On the other hand I think that overtaking should never be artificial. And that is partly what I feel we are facing with this moveable rear wing and I am just hoping that it is not becoming too
artificial,” said Vettel.
Sebastian believes that overtaking would be fantastic for the drivers and would obviously help the FIA in increasing the drama and excitement in the sport.
He added that everybody is aware that it is getting almost impossible in Formula 1 to overtake and if a driver does it, then it feels like a huge achievement which should not be the case.
