The new Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel revealed on Monday that the Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso has yet to say congratulations to him personally.
Although the driver congratulated the young man in the post-Abu Dhabi grand prix press release, but Vettel is still waiting to hear from him one on one.
While talking to the media about Alonso, the German said, "He still has not congratulated me.”
Vettel, now the youngest world Champion, beat Alonso at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix earlier this month. The record of being the youngest Champion of Formula One was held by Alonso until 2008 when the McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton bagged championship only at
the end of his second year in the sport. Now, Vettel took it away from Hamilton, at the age of 23 years and 133 days.
As all the drivers entered the last round of the season Vettel only stood at third place in the drivers’ championship whereas Alonso topped the table with his 246 points. Mark Webber, Red Bull’s second driver, stood 8 points adrift the chart’s topper. Although
his chances of winning were very bleak yet the determination of the driver was unbeatable.
After starting the race from pole position, he kept leading the race until he finally saw the chequered flag. The new world champion has been surrounded by media, fans and friends from all around the world since that moment.
After bagging the victory, the racer finally reached his hometown today, Heppenheim in Germany.
Moreover, as Vettel continues celebrating his victory and trying to sink into the situation, he exclaimed,
“It's all a bit unreal for me, it seems my face was on the front page of every German newspaper. I find it all a bit hard to take in, because at the end of the day, I am just a normal boy.”
