Sebastian Vettel bags another trophy, the Castrol ‘Driver of the Year’
The cruise of success and triumphs goes on for the Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel. After having bagged a lot of awards earlier this season, the new Formula One world champion, now lays his hands on another trophy as he becomes
the ‘Driver of the Year’ in the Castrol Rankings.
The driver wrapped up the 2010 Formula One season at the top of the drivers’ charts last month as he won the season decider, the Abu Dhabi Garand Prix. His ten pole positions and five race wins, made him break the record of Lewis
Hamilton, as he became the youngest world Champion in 60 years’ history of the sport.
Ever since his triumph at the Yas Marina Circuit, the young driver is busy packing trophies and awards all across the globe. The celebration that began with his team at the beautiful Arabian sunset is still far from over and today
he gets another chance of displaying his trademark, "No.1" finger gesture.
The 2010 season had been one of the most exhilarating and exciting seasons for the sport and its fans, while it has been very challenging and demanding for all the teams and the drivers. Until the end of the season, the battle
between the top five drivers of the season and the top three teams continued with the same intensity.
As the caravan of cars reached its last destination in Abu Dhabi, the top four drivers were still only 24 points adrift each other, with 25 points yet to play for. After the very brutal last battle at the fantastic arena, Vettel
was the last man standing, embracing the first championship of his career as he, in vain, tried to control his tears, which kept flowing.
Now, as the 23-year-old collects this trophy, he has not only beaten his teammate, Mark Webber, but also the World Rally Champion Sebastian Loeb, who were both very close contenders in the Castrol Rankings.
In this annual ranking system, experts of auto sport from around the world evaluate the performances of the top drivers, over the past 12 months and select the ‘best of the best drivers’. It includes racers from all categories,
from all parts of the world.
It is aimed at recognising the talent of all the racers and acknowledging the driver who has been the best all through the year. It also gives an excellent opportunity to all the drivers from various disciplines to come under one
roof and appreciate each other’s talent.
