Sebastian Vettel believes RB8 has the potential to be even better – Formula 1 news
Sebastian Vettel said that there is still a lot of room for the RB8 to improve on its current showing.
Vettel impressed in the opening race of the season in Australia as he finished second on the podium. Vettel started the race from 6th place and moved his way up the order impressively to finish the race behind Jenson Button in the McLaren.
The performance on the race day was even more pleasing when the qualifiers are also taken into consideration as the Red Bull struggled and Vettel could only manage to place 6th.
Vettel admitted that he was not able to match Button but is pleased with the way the RB8 has fared.
“I think all in all congratulations to McLaren, to Jenson, I think he drove a fantastic race and was unbeatable today,” Vettel said. “But I'm very happy to come away with second. It's a lot of points; I think a lot of people would not have expected that
after the result yesterday. I think we had a better car in the race and the car seems to have a lot of potential. Now it's up to us to get to it and then we should be very close with these guys but I think it was a great day so thanks for everyone pushing
so hard and making the race result today possible.”
Vettel’s teammate and one of the two locals in the race Mark Webber also impressed in the RB8 although he will be a little disappointed as he could have managed to do better but his car went on the gravel which caused him to slip down but he managed well
to finish the race at 4th his best at the venue.
Vettel talked about the safety car advantage that he had over Hamilton and said that even if that had not happened he still had a pretty good shot at passing him and mentioned that he felt the same about the Mercedes threat.
It would be interesting to see how the two-time world champion will progress in the season but a strong showing in the Australian GP is a welcome sign for the team.
