Sebastian Vettel cherishes being the youngest World Champion
An amazing day unwrapped for Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull at the Yas Marina Circuit this Sunday, at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The German driver elevated himself to be the youngest champion of Formula One history, along with being the second ever German title
winner.
The evening unfolded wonderfully for the driver who drove through the beautifully built track like an aggressive strong man only to end up the voyage in tears like a little child.
The 23-year-old driver broke down into tears after he stamped his name in the record books of the sport.
As the chequered flag welcomed the driver to the list of Formula One world Champions, the driver screamed to his team over the car’s radio, "I love you. Thanks so much - this is just unbelievable."
The Red Bull racer went to the arena standing at third place in the drivers’ standings being 15 points off the charts’ leader Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. However, the tough endeavour of the evening brought the young German four points ahead of Alonso granting
him the first title of his career.
Alonso was the most unlucky man of the day. Despite of having a strong car, a great form and rock solid determination, a poor race strategy cost him his third championship. Some of the cars took a very early pit stop, owing to the stunt of Michael Schumacher
of Mercedes and Toni Luizzo of Force India, at the very first lap of the race. Their poor collision invited the safety car due to which some of the teams decided a quick pit stop, like Renault and Mercedes GP. Following them the Red Bull driver, Mark Webber
also went for pit stop, and then went the Ferrari driver. This blunder cost the team their championship.
As Alonso came out of the pit, he met some traffic where he got stuck behind the Renault driver, Vitaly Petrov. All through the rest of the race, the driver kept struggling hard but all in vain, as by the end of the day he only finished at 7th
place behind Petrov who stole away his title hopes.
However, this proved too lucky for Vettel as he needed the Spaniard to end below fourth place to get the crown of championship.
With this victory the Red Bull driver has broken the record of Lewis Hamilton who was the previous youngest world champion. In 2008, the first ever black driver of the series stole away the record of Alonso who was the previous youngest champion. However,
now at the age of 23 years and 135 days, Vettel is crowned as the next youngest champ.
While talking to the media soon after the race the happy lad said, "After Lewis won the title, I thought to myself, it'll be questionable if there will be anyone younger than him. And to be fair, he only missed it by one point the year before. But records
are there to be broken."
To get his hands on the second title of his life, Hamilton had to win this last race while he also needed a good share of ill fate for the other top three drivers. However, the British racer was only able to finish at second place.
As the race ended the Hamilton congratulated Vettel not only being a champion but also being the youngest one, "It's a good title to have, so enjoy it," Hamilton said.
As the race unfolded at the Arabian track, Vettel and Jenson Button got engaged in a tough battle. However, by the end of the day the latter driver was seen at third place on the podium as his teammate availed the opportunity of his pit-stop and occupied
second place behind Vettel.
There could not have been a better ending of this spectacular season. Seeing three world champions, Vettel (2010), Hamilton (2008) and Button (2009), at the podium was a perfect ending to an unforgettable season.
