Sebastian Vettel claims he does not keep an eye on championship standings – Formula 1 News
Sebastian Vettel has claimed that he does not bother about the championship standings, as that helps him in focussing more on winning races.
According to the Red Bull driver, “If you ask me currently who’s second or third in the title race? I don’t know. I am not entirely sure, but I think Fernando is
second now because Kimi had a poor race in Canada, but I have no idea of the points.”
He went onto say, “The first thing I do after a race when they give me the results is rip off the championship standing and focus on the rest because that’s what
matters for the next race. We have 20 races — if you manage to maximise all of those then you have a good chance of winning the championship in the end.”
The reigning world champion is comfortably ahead of his rivals at the moment, as he has managed to win three races thus far. Although the statistics show that he
has the best chance of winning yet another championship, the reality might be far from it.
Ferrari have got a strong car this season and Fernando Alonso will definitely not make life easy for the triple world champion. The Spaniard was way defensive during
the 2012 Formula 1 season, but the reason for that was his poor machinery. He did not have the car to fight for victories with consistency, which forced him to count on luck more than performance.
Things have changed this year though, as the Italian squad has got rid of their problems. Moreover, the next few races will suit them more compared to other teams,
which will be a real headache for Vettel.
Despite that, the youngest world champion will be looking to capitalise on the current situation by scoring solid points with consistency. He has been quite lucky
until now, as he has stayed away from accidents on the track during race day. If he continues to enjoy this luck, it will be hard for his rivals to catch him in the championship.
Moreover, he will get a lot of open support from his team because of the fact that his team-mate Mark Webber has retired from the sport.
