Sebastian Vettel claims pole for 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has successfully been able to claim his first pole position in this season for 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix with the enhanced RB8.
The defending champions have been seen struggling in finding the true pace of their car in the season so far. Nevertheless, the double world champion secured the pole at Sakhir after setting the best lap time of 1 minute and 32.422 seconds ahead of McLaren
driver Lewis Hamilton.
Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber came third on the timesheets with his best time of 1 minute and 32.637 seconds. The Australian driver was followed by Jenson Button of McLaren who qualified for fourth grid position after hitting his best time of 1 minute and
32.711 seconds.
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg who won the Chinese GP could only managed to secure fifth best finish with the time of 1 minute and 32.821 seconds. The German driver stayed ahead of Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso who set his fastest time of 1 minute and 32.912
seconds.
Ricciardo was followed by Romain Grosjean of Lotus who set the seventh quickest time of 1 minute and 33.008 seconds. Grosjean will start the race ahead of Sauber driver Sergio Perez who came eighth after setting his best lap time of 1 minute and 33.394 seconds.
The Mexican driver remained ahead of Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who secured the ninth grid position for the race. The Spaniard was followed by Paul di Resta of Force India who ran the car on medium tyres.
Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus came 11th after setting his fastest time of 1 minute and 33.789 seconds. The Finnish driver beat the time of Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber who will start the race from 12th place in the grid.
Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg came 13th after setting his quickest time of 1 minute and 33.807 seconds. Felipe Massa of Ferrari came 14th with his best time of 1 minute and 33.912 seconds and was dropped out in Q2. Massa’s compatriot Bruno Senna of
Williams with his fastest time of 1 minute and 34.017 seconds will start the race from 15th position in the grid.
Heikki Kovalainen of Caterham followed Senna after setting his best time of 1 minute and 36.132 seconds. Kovalainen stayed ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams who faced five-place grid penalty due to his gearbox change. Therefore, he will start the race
from 22nd grid position.
Michael Schumacher of Mercedes came 18th on the timesheets and failed to make his way into Q2 because he stayed in the garage while other drivers remained busy in improving their timings.
The seven-time world champion was followed by Jean Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso who came 19th in the qualifying and remained ahead of Caterham driver Vitaly Petrov who will start the race from 20th grid position.
