Sebastian Vettel claims that his relationship with Fernando Alonso had some problems - Formula 1
According to Red Bull Racing Team’s Sebastian Vettel, he and Fernando Alonso had some “problems” in their relationship during the 2010 Formula 1 season.
Sebastian and Fernando had a close competition for the drivers’ title during the 2010 Formula 1 season. Alonso fell just a mere 4 points short of the 2010 Champion after the grand finale in Abu Dhabi.
Vettel snatched the drivers’ standing’s lead at the final race and took the title, as Alonso was unable to secure sufficient amount of points to retain his lead.
“The event was judged by outsiders wrongly, and Fernando and I have since spoken and our relationship is now good. Two people can have different ideas but still respect each other,” he said.
According to a recent statement by Fernando Alonso, he claims that he is “not racing to make friends” and Sebastian has revealed that the Spaniard did not even congratulate him after he won the World Championship in 2010.
“No. Nothing in Abu Dhabi. In Monte Carlo [for the FIA prize giving] he shook my hand. That's normal, if you win others are disappointed and some need five minutes to move past it, others two weeks,” he added.
However, rumours suggest that Sebastian Vettel might move to Ferrari in the coming few years and by the looks of it, the team won’t replace Fernando Alonso anytime soon as he is performing much better than his team-mate Felipe Massa.
Fernando scored almost twice as many points as Felipe did in the 2010 Formula 1 season but Sebastian claims that he is happy with Red Bull Racing Team for the time being.
“I have a contract with Red Bull this season and an option for 2012. After that, you never know what can happen," he said. "Right now I'm happy where I am,” said Sebastian.
The 2011 Formula 1 season is shaping up to be an enthralling one for the fans as a result of these recent statements, and since there isn't much difference between Red Bull and Ferrari, in terms of pace - according to the pre-season test session results
- the two teams will be looking for a tough neck-to-neck fight till the very last race of the season.
