Sebastian Vettel clearly above the rest – Stirling Moss
Sebastian Vettel won the Formula 1 drivers’ title after an exhilarating and dramatic 2010 Formula 1 season. The young German became the youngest champion in the history of the sport and led the championship just once this year and that was when it mattered
the most.
Sebastian drove alongside Mark Webber in Team Red Bull and got equally challenged by the Aussie driver. However, according to Sir Sterling Moss, Sebastian Vettel was “head and shoulders” above the rest of the drivers on the Formula 1 grid.
“Last year I was very lucky, I put £50 each way on Vettel to win and it made me £430 so he's my flavour of the month!" said "It's pretty open although I must admit he's head and shoulders really above the others,” Moss told the media.
Sterling stated that he had put his own money on the young German to win the title despite the fact that Fernando Alonso was in a better situation than Sebastian. It was a race between the 5 former champions on the grid and defeating all of them was not
easy. Vettel will have to battle it out once again in 2011 and it seems that this time, Michael Schumacher is going to give him a tough time as well.
“He's only 23 and he's getting more and more track craft, as is Lewis, so I don't think it's going to be a runaway victory but I think it will be quite interesting. Ferrari did a terrific job until they threw it away at the end but having said that I think
Vettel is that fast,” he added.
However, he stated that if he had to put his money on any driver this year, it was Sebastian Vettel. Moss believes that Michael Schumacher should not have returned to the sport and coming back with Mercedes was simply the wrong decision as he destroyed his
legacy.
“The fact that he was a seven-time world champion ruins what world champions are about. First of all, he is flawed. We have seen that all over the place and we've never seen him at his best when he had a really good driver alongside him,” said Sterling.
He added that Michael clearly does not regret his decision and it would be interesting to see what he does next year with an improved Mercedes.
