Sebastian Vettel concerned about Red Bull’s top speed
Even though Sebastian Vettel is confident about his team’s chances at the Belgian Grand Prix, the car’s top speed at the Spa-Francorchamps long straights worries the German driver. Red Bull achieved the highest levels of downforce on the current F1 grid but compromised on the straight-line speed and power from its Renault engine. The Spa-Francorchamps offers rewarding high straight-line speed at the Eau Rouge and the final sector of the circuit and Vettel expects to lose a lot of time on these portions of the track.
Sebastian Vettel recently joined Formula 1 just 3 years ago in 2007 with BMW Sauber and managed to score 6 points in just 8 races. That was quite an impressive result for a debut season keeping in mind BMW Sauber or Toro Rosso were not in their best shape during this time. Sebastian continued his career with Toro Rosso the following year and blew his critics away with a win after scoring a pole position in his first full season even though Toro Rosso was nowhere near the top teams.
The German managed to score 35 points, securing an 8th place and signed with Red Bull for the next 2 years. Finally, Vettel got to drive a good car and did not disappoint the spectators as he scored 84 points with the help of 4 wins, 8 podiums and 4 pole positions to secure the 2nd place in the drivers’ standings. The 23-year-old is currently at the 3rd place with 151 points just 10 points behind teammate Mark Webber who is currently leading the drivers’ standings. Sebastian hopes to score some good points at one of his favorite circuits.
“I love Spa, it has some of the best corner sections in Formula One, and they’re long, fast-flowing and suit our car. We were very competitive in the race there last year, but we lost out in qualifying a bit. Our weakness will be the long straights and, with uphill sections too, we know it won't be easy for us, but I am optimistic for the race”, the 23-year-old said.
Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber seemed excited about the Belgian Grand Prix but did not predict about the car’s abilities.
Mark Webber began his career in the Formula 1 as a regular driver after signing with Minardi in 2002. The Australian scored an outstanding 5th place in the drivers’ standings and impressed the spectators with a below standard car. His performances impressed team Jaguar due to which he earned a place in the team for next year.
Webber maintained his performance by scoring a total of 17 points in the drivers’ standings. The 33-year-old stayed with the team for another year before joining Williams in 2004. The Australian scored his first podium in Formula 1 this year and scored a total of 36 points, securing the 10th place in the drivers’ standings.
Webber left Williams in 2006 and joined Red Bull in the following season for 2 years. These 2 years were tough for Webber but he managed to prove his worth when he scored 2 wins, 8 podiums and 3 pole positions to score 69.5 points to secure the 4th position in the drivers’ standings.
Mark is currently leading the Championship and is in perfect shape to win the drivers’ championship. He has scored 4 wins, 6 podiums and 4 poles up until now to secure 161 points. The Australian is only 4 points ahead of British driver Lewis Hamilton but believes that 2010 will be his year. Webber is prepared for the next race and expects good results there.
“I don't think there is a driver on the grid that doesn't look forward to Spa, it's an incredible circuit to drive on. I expect we can do well there, whether it's as well as I did in Budapest is a question for everyone, but I know our team is ready”, the Australian said.
