Sebastian Vettel considers Ferrari as main threat in Canada – Formula 1 News
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel believes that Ferrari are back in the game, after having a disappointing time in the previous race of the season in Monaco.
Looking at the results of the Friday practice session in Canada, the reigning world champion said, “On one lap if you look at the timesheets, Mercedes was again very, very quick. And Ferrari looks competitive on both long and short
runs, so I think those will be the main two rivals. Never forget the Lotus because they can be a surprise in the race by going further (on tyres) than anyone else.”
However, the triple world champion was pleased with his team’s performance too. He added, “But I felt we were pretty strong overall. In the wet on the 'inters' I felt comfortable straightaway. It is always tricky around here to
get everything together in those conditions, if you are not comfortable you can bleed a lot of lap time but the car seemed good.”
The Canadian circuit was hit by rain during the first practice session of the weekend, which prevented the teams to gather useful data on dry tyres. The conditions began improving with the passage of time, which allowed the drivers
to post in some quick laps.
Despite that, the track was a bit slippery and the picture was not really clear whether who was the quickest of all in normal conditions. Force India’s Paul di Resta topped that session, as he managed to set some fast lap timed
towards the ending moments.
However, things came back to normal, when all the teams came out in the second practice session of the weekend. The Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg once again looked extremely quick, but they failed to lock the
top spot in the end.
It was Fernando Alonso, who managed to post the fastest lap of the session in his Ferrari, showing that he would fight for pole on a dry circuit. His team-mate Felipe Massa seemed a bit low on confidence though, as he ended up
sixth overall.
The Brazilian had a massive accident during the Monaco GP and suffered some serious injuries as a result. He will be looking to bounce back strongly, by scoring some solid points in Montreal.
