Sebastian Vettel dominates in final practice of 2012 Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has dominated in the free practice of 2012 Spanish Grand Prix in the final practice session held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
The double world champion topped the timesheets in FP3 with his best lap time of 1 minute and 23.168 seconds on soft Pirelli tyres. Moreover, he covered 13 laps and was followed by Pastor Maldonado of Williams who came second with his fastest time of 1 minute
and 23.336 seconds.
Maldonado stayed ahead of Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber-Ferrari who stood third with his quickest time of 1 minute and 23.350 seconds. The Japanese completed 19 laps and remained ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull who set the fourth best time of 1 minute and 23.578
seconds and covered 16 laps.
The Australian driver was followed by Sergio Perez of Sauber who after completing 22 laps came fifth on the timesheets with his fastest lap time of 1 minute and 23.742 seconds.
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, the pace setter of FP1, was the sixth quickest driver with his best time of 1 minute and 23.807 seconds. Furthermore, the Spaniard covered 15 laps and was followed by Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso who set the seventh fastest
time of 1 minute and 23.833 seconds.
McLaren driver, Jenson Button set the 8th best time of 1 minute and 23.909 seconds, additionally, he completed 13 laps. The Briton stayed ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus who came 9th with his quickest time of 1 minute and 23.936 seconds.
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes set the 10th fastest time of 1 minute 24.070 seconds. Besides, he covered 24 laps and was the first driver who switched to soft compound tyres during the FP3.
Felipe Massa of the Scarlet team who has been struggling in the season so far came 11th on the timesheets with his best time of 1 minute and 24.179 seconds. The Brazilian driver completed 16 laps and was followed by Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who set
the 12th fastest time of 1 minute and 24.323 seconds.
Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso set 13th quickest time of 1 minute and 24.331 seconds. He completed 15 laps and remained ahead of Bruno Senna of Williams who came 14th on the timesheets with his best lap time of 1 minute and 24.409 seconds.
The Mexican driver was followed by Paul di Resta of Force India who covered 15 laps and set the 15th quickest time.
Lewis Hamilton of the Woking based team came 16th on the timesheets with his fastest time of 1 minute and 24.778 seconds. The 2008 world champion was followed by the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher of Mercedes who with his best time of 1 minute
and 24.825 seconds stood at 17th position in the timesheets.
Schumacher stayed ahead of Caterham pair of drivers, Vitaly Petrov and Heikki Kovalainen which was followed by Marussia’s drivers, Charles Pic and Timo Glock.
It will be important to mention that Romain Grosjean of Lotus could only complete 2 laps as he stopped at turn ten due to fuel pressure loss in E20.
Over and above, all the contenders are looking forward to perform well in the qualifying so as to secure competitive grid position for Spanish GP.
