Sebastian Vettel eager to witness true pace at Melbourne – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel is quite eager than anyone else to witness the actual pace of the contenders at the opening qualifying session of the upcoming F1 season going to be held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia this Saturday.
Red Bull faced some issues during the last day of the final test at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona when Vettel could only be able to complete 23 laps in total and came last on the timesheets but the defending champions had still been deemed as the most
favourite team for the forthcoming season after all the pre-season tests.
Moreover, double world champion, Vettel who is hoping to claim the title for the third consecutive time in the approaching season has been considered an out-and-out favourite for the championship. Besides, he said that the defending champion is most naturally
viewed amongst the favourites of the subsequent season.
“Generally, the one who wins it the year before is usually among the favourites the next season,” said Vettel.
Vettel said that the team had progressed magnificently well from the season of 2009 to 2011. He also said that during the last season they performed better as a team even though they had a less strong car as compared to 2010.
Furthermore, he said that the test runs had been quite reliable but he could not tell anything regarding the team’s position amongst its contenders before the qualifying round in Melbourne and he was looking forward to set off for the racing.
“Testing has been busy over the last few weeks and I think we have made a decent step with the car,” the German said. “You never really know where you are until we get to Melbourne and, even then, you don’t really see what everyone has got until qualifying;
I’m looking forward to getting started. It is good to know we’re going racing again. I can’t wait to get on the flight and get down under.”
It would be interesting to mention that Vettel was taken out of the race during his first Grand Prix in Australia when he was in Toro Rosso back in 2008 and he qualified ninth due to a collision in the first corner.
