Sebastian Vettel eagerly looks forward to race in 2012 Belgian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has said that he is eagerly looking forward to race in the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix which will be held at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps this weekend.
Vettel claimed victory at Spa after delivering a terrific performance during the last season. Moreover, his teammate, Mark Webber also performed extremely well and secured an impressive second podium finish.
Presently, the defending champion is standing at third place in the drivers’ championship with 122 points. Furthermore, he is ahead of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and is behind Webber.
Although, he is 42 points behind the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who is currently at the top of the drivers’ rankings with 164 points, nevertheless, he is confidently aiming to perform well in the forthcoming races in order to make his mark stronger
in this year’ championship battle.
In addition, the veteran German driver called Spa as one of his most favourite circuits where he has always enjoyed racing. He also said that he is very much pleased to get a chance to race again in Belgium where he scored an amazing win in the preceding
year.
“The Spa circuit is defined by the surrounding nature and it’s one of my favourite tracks. I was very happy to have won there last year”, he said.
Additionally, he said that the approaching race will be quite a challenge for all the drivers because of the unpredictable weather conditions and changing nature of the track. Nonetheless, he said that he is feeling very positive about the season ahead after
the summer smash and is targeting to fight for the championship title.
“Spa offers every type of racing corner; ultra-fast, medium-fast and slow chicanes, that alternate with fast straights. The difference in altitude and the unpredictable weather really make the track a big challenge – and it’s one that every racing driver
loves to compete on. It’s good to be back after the summer break.”
The Milton Keynes based team is currently leading the constructors’ championship with 246 points and has a strong lead over McLaren, Lotus and Ferrari. Let’s see whether their drivers will be able to maintain their lead in the upcoming races or not.
