Sebastian Vettel enjoys a successful weekend in Berlin and Dusseldorf
2010 Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel has executed yet another energetic racing weekend, this time in his native Germany. Taking to the streets of Berlin and Dusseldorf
in his victorious Red Bull car, the 23-year-old dazzled viewers with his dramatic display before the historic Brandenburg gate – the youngest F1 champion to do so.
"It was a dream come true for me today and it was great that so many people were here, even in the cold weather," reflected
a jubilant Vettel. "It's something very special to drive in front of the Brandenburg Gate and to leave a signature of rubber written by my slicks! You don't get such a chance very often in life – it was a great day."
The driver then completed his route in the Red Bull tour bus along the famous Yitzhak-Rabin street, followed by a festive driver's parade that thrilled the many throngs
of spectators who had ventured out to catch a glimpse of the country's rising prodigy.
The rest of the weekend saw Vettel join legendary compatriot Michael Schumacher of Mercedes in the annual Race of Champions (ROC) event. Though failing to make the finals,
Team Germany earned their fourth consecutive Nations Cup title, beating out Team GB. The two talents were met with an overwhelming reception.
"It was a really cool night for all the fans, as well as for Michael and myself to get so much support," stated Vettel. "It was
extremely close in the first round and we thought we might get knocked out. But I was lucky I had Michael on my team. It was a fun experience and to win at home, the first time in many years that the Race of Champions has been held in Germany, is very special."
“The crowd were very supportive tonight," added Schumacher. "They were cheering us all the way and with Sebastian having just won the world championship it was even more emotional and fun out there tonight. After the group stages we definitely needed to wake
up – it felt like we were asleep. But when we were in the final, against the British guys, I thought we had a good chance."
