Sebastian Vettel excited over his chance of winning third consecutive title – Formula 1 news
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel has expressed his excitement over having the chance of winning the third consecutive F1 championship of his career as the 2012 season approaches its end.
“I think it would be incredible,” Vettel said. “It's been a very long year, a tough season; up and down I think for everyone. It's been extremely challenging, different to previous years in many ways. I think we learned a lot and we did less mistakes this
year. We have a very competitive car, we had one since the beginning of this season; maybe sometimes not good enough to win but still good enough to collect a lot of points so that put us in a very strong position and we are able to fight for the championship.”
While his Ferrari rival, Fernando Alonso, thinks that it is a disadvantage of having a race on a new track, Vettel believes that it should not be such an issue since it is not the first time the teams have been required to explore a completely new track.
He insists that they have done the same thing in the past. He thinks what is more important is to have a good start to the weekend with the first practice session on Friday.
Vettel believes that even though Red Bull is in good position to win but anything can be expected by the end of this season.
Alonso is very confident that he can still take the lead from Vettel and ultimately win the drivers’ championship. He has stated that even though they do not have a quicker car like Red Bull but he trusts his team.
Ferrari is extremely focused on scoring maximum points come the race in Austin on Sunday. Alonso also insisted that it is normal for them to qualify for the sixth or seventh position but generally that is thought as if losing the chance to win over Vettel.
Alonso should be scoring an estimate of fifteen points to keep his title chance alive. If Vettel wins the United States GP then Alonso must finish at least fourth. The only way Vettel will not be wrapping up the championship this weekend is if he finishes
fourth or lower.
