Sebastian Vettel expects championship fight by the end of current season – Formula 1 news
Sebastian Vettel believes that he will be able to fight for the top position in the current 2012 season as he did in the last season.
The Red Bull driver believes that the bumpy and challenging Marina Bay Street Circuit does not have any room for mistakes.
Last year, before winning the Singapore Grand Prix he had attained 284 championship points. Winning at the Marina Bay circuit added 25 to his championship points in the 2011 season. The German driver anticipates that in the current year he will be able to
attain the same amount of points.
He said, “Hopefully it’s not too different. I hope that we can score the same amount of points this year and the others will do us the favour of not finishing… (laughs) I think it is a great race and every year we are happy to be here.”
The Red Bull driver takes the race at Singapore as one of the most challenging races as it is scheduled at night and the Singaporean bumpy track along with the hot weather adds to challenge.
“It is one of the most challenging races of the season. It is the only night race, the track is very long and bumpy and it is hot. There is absolutely no room for mistakes so you better not make any,” he added.
Vettel remains satisfied with his car after topping the Friday practice session of Singapore GP. Both soft and super soft compounds, supplied by Pirelli met the expectations of the team during the first day of practice. He hopes desired results if the performance
of his machine remains same over the weekend.
Vettel had to retire from the Italian Grand Prix due to an alternator issue, he told that he and his team is working hard to find the solution of the issues as his victory would be his team’s success as well. He told that he has not been actively involved
in the discussions related to the alternator because he is not directly related to issue. He had to provide the useful data but he could not help it, although he wanted to.
Vettel topped the first two practice session of the Singaporean GP and expects to fight for the top position, repeating history at Marina Bay. Let’s see how the German driver performs on the race day.
