Sebastian Vettel expects close competition in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has said that he is expecting a close competition in the 2013 Formula 1 season and believes that there will be two or three drivers fighting for the title.
Vettel performed tremendously well during the preceding season and claimed his third consecutive drivers’ championship title. Although, he had a very tough competition with Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who also performed consistently well and fought right
until the end of the season. However, the veteran German driver delivered a remarkable performance in the epic season finale held at Interlagos in Brazil and won the championship by just 3 points from the Spaniard.
It will be important to mention that Red Bull struggled a lot during the pre-season testing programme during the last year as they failed to create full understanding about their car RB8 because of the changes in the rules and regulations by FIA. Nonetheless,
their chief technical officer, Adrian Newey managed to make some essential development in the car with which Vettel performed incredibly well during the last few grands prix.
In contrast, the Milton Keynes based squad seem very strong in this pre-season testing programme and are looking forward to perform well right from the start of the season.
The triple-world champion thinks that this season will not be much different from the last one and he expects a very close battle amongst the top drivers.
“I don't think it will be much different from what was important last year - again it will be very close, so it will not be a case of two or three drivers fighting it out,” Vettel told the official F1 website.
Besides, he expressed that in order to defend their title, they will have to score competitive points with consistency in this season.
“In the first half of the season I expect a very similar situation to 2012 where we saw many different winners,” he added. “Then, in the second half, some favourites will become visible. To be one of them you have to score points at every race and be consistent
- that was what got us the title in 2012.”
