Sebastian Vettel feels delighted after Friday practice of 2012 Spanish GP – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has said that he is feeling quite delighted after the free Friday practice sessions of 2012 Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
The two-time world champion came second on the timesheets in FP2 with his best time of 1 minute and 23.563 seconds. Afterwards, he expressed that he is pleased with the performance of RB8.
“It wasn't too bad today - there's a lot of stuff for us to go through,” Vettel said. “We had a few new parts to try, which is not that unusual for Barcelona. I'm pretty happy; we did a lot of laps and got through the programme well.”
However, he said that he is expecting numerous pit stops as the track temperature may rise on the race day.
“The wind played a role today, you could see some cars going off the track and the asphalt temperatures can go high here which makes the car slide. It's similar here to last year and it's likely we will see a few stops on Sunday during the race,” he said.
Besides, he said that they are focusing to perform well in the qualifying so as to begin the race from a competitive grid position.
Despite facing difficulties during the start of the season, the defending champions are currently leading the constructors’ championship with 101 points.
On the other hand, the double world champion is on top of the drivers’ standings with 53 points while his teammate, Mark Webber is at third position with 48 points.
In the season opener, the veteran German driver secured second podium after qualifying for 6th grid position. Conversely, he could not score even a single point in the second race as he had a collision with Narain Karthikeyan of HRT. Later, in the third
race he came 5th and finally claimed his first victory of this season in Bahrain GP after claiming the pole.
Contrarily, the Australian driver, Webber has been the most consistent driver in the season so far as he has managed to secure fourth place finish in all the four races.
