Sebastian Vettel feels more pressure after winning his third title – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has said that he is feeling more pressure after winning his third successive world drivers’ championship title in the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Vettel had a struggling start to this season as compared to the previous one in which he entirely dominated with his 11 race victories.
Nevertheless, the veteran German driver kept on fighting hard despite the problems which his team faced with the design of RB8 because of the changes in the rules by FIA.
On the other hand, the chief technical officer of Red Bull, Adrian Newey worked very hard throughout the year to develop the most competitive car and successfully managed to achieve his goal towards the end of the season. Finally, the 25-year-old performed
incredibly well with the fastest car during the last few grands prix and claimed his third championship title.
After winning the title, Vettel became the youngest triple world champion in the history of the sport and has now been compared with the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher.
However, he believes that it is extremely hard to keep up the level of consistency in the performance after such an accomplishment because the pressure of expectations mounts to a higher level. Furthermore, he said that it is very hard to keep the focus
on getting more and more.
“I said after [Brazil] race that the hardest thing is to win after you have won,” commented the German. “You get the attention and the pressure, and you are very likely to focus on how to win again, rather than the small steps to win in first place.”
“Of course there's pressure, on top of that it's always getting more and more tense at the end of the year, within the last couple of races depending on who you fight in order to try to win the championship,” he said.
“It's not easy to stay focussed in that regard, it's very, very hard,” he added.
Nonetheless, he asserted that in order to avoid any kind of distractions, he just focuses on his own performance. He also said that he is looking forward to achieve more in the future.
