Sebastian Vettel feels qualifying is ‘crucial’ – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel believes that the qualifying will be very crucial at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia this Saturday and he looks forward to discover the pace of the new car RB8.
“I think, no doubt, qualifying is always very important,” said Vettel.
Red Bull had not carried out any qualifying simulations during the pre-season tests held at Jerez and Barcelona circuits this year. However, Vettel said that he felt quite comfortable with the new car and was waiting to see how competent other teams were
on low fuel.
“It's usually easier when you start from the front so yeah, I think generally as the other drivers said already it was difficult to read testing one hundred per cent - so we've got a feeling: first of all it's important to have a good feeling about yourself,
about the car, how you feel in the car. We were quite happy with that, surely it didn't always go to plan but overall we can be happy and as I said it's unknown at this stage what is going to happen,” said Vettel.
Moreover, during the pre-season testing, every team had been quite careful about making any kind of projections and judgments regarding the standings of their contenders for the upcoming season.
Sebastian Vettel faced some issues in the new car after the upgrades were made as he could only complete 23 laps and was last on the timesheets during the final day of the last test held at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona.
Nonetheless, the two-time world champion is still considered the outright favourite for the approaching season. Furthermore, he said that the driver who had won the title in the previous year is naturally deemed as favourite for the next season.
Besides, he said that he did not anticipate that an accurate order of the teams would come into sight after the first race in Australia because of the distinct circuit.
He also said that there were going to be many races after the first GP throughout the season while he stated that the circuit for the first race would not help in knowing the pace of the cars as it was different than a normal track.
