Sebastian Vettel insists Red Bull Racing never stopped believing – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel insists key for their success in the 2012 Formula 1 season was that they never stopped believing despite facing some huge issues, especially in the beginning.
The 25-year-old completely dominated in the last season and claimed 11 race victories for his team. However, he took a struggling start in this season as the Milton Keynes based team faced immense problems and failed to create thorough understanding about
RB8’s design.
Furthermore, they were surrounded by many speculations that they would not be able to defend their championship title in this season.
Nevertheless, they kept on making efforts and their chief technical officer, Adrian Newey finally developed the most competent car towards the end of the season which helped the veteran German driver in attaining competitive results in the last few races
to make his position stronger in the championship fight.
Even though, his main opponent, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari fought very well until the end of the season. Nonetheless, he managed to secure 6th place finish in the Brazilian Grand Prix and won his third consecutive drivers’ championship title by
only 3 points from Alonso.
Vettel said that they claimed their third successive drivers’ as well as the constructors’ championship titles because they never backed down and kept on fighting hard.
“What was key this year was that we never stopped believing. And believe me, that is easier said than done. There are so many ‘experts’ out there making throwaway remarks about who will be the champion and who the loser, and you don’t have to let that get
to you. Not positive and not negative,” he said.
In addition, the youngest triple world champion said that they tried to secure points in each and every race as they know that every single point counts in the championship battle.
“You have to focus completely on your own business and never worry about what other people do or don’t do. What some of my competitors might have underestimated but which probably was huge cornerstone of the success is the understanding that every single
point counts,” he added.
