Sebastian Vettel insists he is not ‘worried’ about KERS – Formula 1 update
Formula 1 Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel, has insisted that he is not worried about the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) for the up-coming race weekend, as this problem has been fixed ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix.
Vettel went on to mention that he is not nervous about his last year’s clash with team-mate Mark Webber, which they had in the previous edition of the Turkish track.
The German driver appreciated the team’s good work, which they completed on their new RB7 car, before the up-coming race weekend. He added that they have had some problems over the first three races of the season, held in Australia, Malaysia and China, respectively. Vettel said that engineers have really worked hard and fixed all the issues for the upbeat run of the car, in the remaining races.
Vettel, said, "That's why for this next race I am not worried. When I asked the team what (new) to expect, I received many answers. You'll have to ask them for yourself."
The German also discussed last year’s clash with Webber. Vettel insisted that he cannot change what happened at Istanbul Park in 2010 and added that he has learnt a lot from it.
Both drivers had collided with each other during the Turkish race and as a result, their working relationship was under severe strain for some time.
Despite all the issues, both drivers are performing very well on the grid. The team had a strong start to the current season, as Vettel won both the first two races, held at the Melbourne and Sepang tracks. Team-mate Webber, failed to put his best performance in the initial races, as his car had some issues.
Other than the KERS issue, Red Bull team also had a cooling issue in the start of the season. Team consultant, Helmut Marko has told that he will fix this issue in ongoing weekend.
Marko went on to add, "Our KERS is fine; over the Easter break we have made some modifications. It was believed the main problem was overheating. It is much better now, it works. And "The next two tracks should be good for us."
With regards to the Chinese race, the 34-year-old driver started his weekend without KERS and it was difficult for him to move on the grid without it. Webber really worked hard over his race to finish his third fastest run, behind team-mate Vettel.
For Vettel, China’s race was unlucky, as McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton snatched his position in the end of the race. After securing two-top position in races, Vettel is looking forward to being victorious in Turkey’s race, taking place on May 8.
